J. Lohr Cuvee St. E, 2006

Recently, while spring cleaning, we unearthed 3 bottles (one each) of the 2006 vintage J. Lohr Cuvée series wines.  They were still in the original shipping box.  How we misplaced these bottles we will never know.  Thankfully we did because, WOW, did this wine age gracefully.  We decided to enjoy the Cuvée St. E with dinner.  Upon opening we noticed the cork looked perfect.  No sign of “cork taint.”  The first sniff is full of aromas of chocolate and fig.  The flavors are full of black cherry and dark fruit.  We let the wine breathe for about an hour which enhanced the deep velvety smooth finish.

We are so excited to have found this fabulous wine in our cellar; yet sad we only have two bottles left!  We have one bottle each of the 2006 J. Lohr Cuvée PAU and J. Lohr Cuvée POM.  Be watching for those reviews in the future!

If the current Cuvée St. E. vintage is anything similar to this wine – Get it.  Or buy a few bottles and lose them for about 5-6 years.  You’ll be glad you did.

  1. Sounds like a happy mistake! It’s nice the wine aged so gracefully.

  2. Oh, sounds wonderful! I wish I’d have a big enough wine cellar one day to be able to misplace bottles once in a while 😛
I can’t remember what the season of 2006 was like, I think it might have been quite cold? As a Finn, I do remember when it’s warm in Europe LOL so maybe it was cold summer… So maybe the wine was forgotten because it wasn’t so good fresh? But Bordeaux wines do age well 🙂

    • Oh it was so wonderful. Our cellar is not that big. We tend to use our wine shipping boxes for general storage after opening so this one was hiding in plain sight! We assumed we had packed other items away when we had never actually opened the box. A nice mistake 🙂 Thanks for the comment!
